10 years ago, LinkNow Media pivoted our regular secret Santa tradition in favor of doing something that means so much more-and we have never looked back.
As our company has grown as a team and family, so have our hearts and dedication to helping those in need.
Together, we've created a legacy that touches the lives of at-risk children who are most in need.
This year, our goal is to donate 750 gifts and raise $30,000.
LinkNow Media CEO Wesley Mendelovitch recently said it best, "...if we do this all together, we will hit our goal - a little from a lot of people makes a huge impact."
In 2012, our LinkNow Media staff collectively decided we prefer to give back to our community in a way that is different from simply continuing to go about the usual company gift exchange.
After some research, we discovered the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres.
The Batshaw Centres' mission is:
Provided in accordance with the Youth Protection Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and An Act Respecting Health Services and Social Services, Batshaw Centres provide much-needed care and services for thousands of youths in need.
This all happens right here at home in our beloved Montreal.
Once we decided to put our efforts into helping the Batshaw Centres, we were fortunate to meet with some of the amazing people who are there working tirelessly, year-round, to provide compassion and support to at-need youths.
The stories they shared with us on our visit were heart-wrenching.
Stories touched on abuse, neglect, sexual assault, violence, and death. We were shocked to learn how many suffering children we share our very own province with.
In our first year, our staff of just 50 people were able to donate 120 gifts.
In our hearts, we knew there were thousands of local children that are helped by the Batshaw Centres. It was tough for us to know that so many kids were still going to go without.
After all, when children write letters to Santa, they don't understand that socioeconomic differences are the deciding factor and not whether or not they've been a good boy or girl this year.
Since 2012, LinkNow Media has donated a total of 5,168 gifts and $200,696.
While we encourage choosing a child's name and buying gifts first, we also accept cash donations. These financial donations are then used by Batshaw staff to purchase gifts for children whose letters didn't make it in on time or whose names were left lingering on the list after all the selections have been made.
Here is a little highlight of what we've been able to achieve together over the years:
2012: 120 gifts
2015: $10,000 and 250 gifts
2016: $33,000 and 550 gifts.
2019: $28,000 and 500 gifts
2021: $35,000 and 1428 gifts
These numbers don't lie. We're a passionate company with a lot of big hearts on staff and at our ownership level-and we have no plans to stop the beautiful momentum we started ten years ago.
Every year we double down on our efforts, and 2022 is no different.
For 2022, we have a goal to raise $30,000 and donate 750 gifts to the Batshaw Centres.
In past years, most of our monetary and physical donations came from members of our own family, including LinkNow owners and employees. This year, we'd like to branch out and extend an invitation to include you as well!
When you participate in our gift drive, all the proceeds (money and gifts) go directly to the kids.
It's worth noting that every member of LinkNow Media who is creating secret Santa websites, making phone calls, and more, is all doing this on a volunteer basis. We feel a duty to give back to our community and hope you feel the same.

Do you really want to make a difference this Holiday season? There are many good reasons to open your heart and make a child feel cared for. Perhaps you yourself have been a past recipient of generosity during the holidays, at a time when you and your family needed it most and now, you're able to pay it forward.
Maybe you have personal experience with the foster care system or know someone who does. It's also possible that you'd just like to experience the joy of wrapping the arms of kindness around another deserving human being-a child who has pinned their hopes and dreams on the chance that Santa will hear them and answer their wish.

Many of the children at the Batshaw Centres have endured hardships we can never imagine. It's difficult for them to think about the future when they feel they have no future to look forward to.
While some kids want toys, Xboxes, and cameras, others are teenage mothers asking for cribs, clothing, and diapers for their soon-to-be-born children. Some are kids who dream of being able to join their peers in playing outside in the snow with their very own crazy carpets during our long winters. And others are children who are hoping Santa will bring a special bedspread set, so that they can tuck in at night with their favorite characters wrapped cozily around them.
Small acts of giving are the fabric of what keeps the spirit of the holidays alive. You can make a real difference in the life of another person. Won't you join us?
Back in 2012, the staff at LinkNow Media decided to forgo the traditional office gift exchange and give back to the community instead. This resulted in our first gift drive for the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Foundation, a local foster care program in Quebec.
Our first holiday fundraiser was a huge success and quickly became an annual tradition. As our company expanded, so did our holiday spirit-and we have been proud to increase our donations year after year. The New Secret Santa is now an important part of our company identity and something that our staff members look forward to every year.
It is now a decade later and we have no plans on slowing down. For the 10th anniversary of our gift drive and fundraiser, we are aiming to raise $30,000 and 750 gifts for children in foster care.
When we started our first annual fundraiser, we knew that we wanted to find a way to help children in need during the holidays. After careful consideration, we landed on the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres. This non-profit organization has been providing resources for underprivileged children for over 30 years, and they were extremely grateful to receive our donations.
After the success of our first gift drive and receiving positive feedback from Batshaw organizers, we knew that we had found the perfect match. We have become closely connected with many of the staff members at Batshaw, who have come to depend on our annual contributions. Before we made the switch to remote work, we even held our annual company talent show in one of Batshaw's buildings.
One of our core values at LinkNow Media is to help others whenever we can. Even outside of the holiday season, our company's success depends on the cooperation and dedication of our employees. Although our team is now spread farther apart physically, our annual gift drive is one of the things that help remind us that we are all in this together.
Even when challenges present themselves, we have worked hard to adapt and push ourselves forward. During the lockdown in 2020, it would have been easy to accept defeat and reduce our annual contributions-but this was not the case. Our staff came together and developed a method of hosting our gift drive remotely, so employees from coast to coast were able to donate a gift to a child in need.
Every year, we strive to increase our donations. It's not easy-and $30,000 is a lot of money-but we have faith in the generosity of our staff. That said, we are also seeking donations from other businesses and community members.

Since 2012, LinkNow Media has partnered with the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres Foundation to provide Christmas gifts to children in need. For eight years, our merry little office has come together to buy, wrap, and deliver gifts to foster children across Montreal and Quebec.
Things are a little different this year, but we’re proud to say we’re keeping that tradition alive. For the ninth year in a row, LinkNow Media is working with Batshaw to raise donations and spread a little holiday cheer. The world has changed, sure. But the human spirit hasn’t.
Last year, our goal was to raise $30,000 and send 300 gifts to the children in our provincial foster care system. We managed to set a company record, raising $28,000 and sending 750 gifts.
Our goal for 2020 is no less ambitious. We’re aiming to raise another $30,000 and send 500 gifts. It’s a monumental task. Considering the damage COVID’s inflicted on our lives and communities, we know it’s a lot of money. But we at LinkNow are fortunate to be in a position to give back. We’re in a position to help those who need it most—and we plan to take full advantage of it.
We are living through an unprecedented crisis in our health, economic, and social systems. Everyone has had to adapt to the new normal, and LinkNow is no exception.
Normally, December is a time for celebration and charity for us at the office. Normally, right around now, we'd be rallying together in the office, packing and wrapping gifts for the children. We'd also be getting ready to host our annual LinkNow Media talent show, with the proceeds going to the Batshaw Foundation. In a couple of weeks, we'd normally be enjoying our annual holiday party, again with proceeds going to Batshaw.
Needless to say, none of those things can go forward this year. We can't do the talent show. We can't do the holiday party. But what we can do, is keep the holiday spirit alive.
This year, LinkNow took the historic step to migrate all staff gift donations to an online platform. We've also migrated our donation fundraising to Batshaw's online portal so that friends, families, and neighbours of staff can all contribute without putting their health at risk. It's meant a lot of after-hours work from our staff. But if it means making a child's Christmas? Here at LinkNow, we think it's well worth it.
We know our goal of $30,000 is a huge effort. But we're in the fortunate position to be able to give back to our community. We have the chance to help those who most need a little holiday cheer this year.
But we can't do it alone.
To reach our goal, we're asking for donations from businesses, community members, and others who can help. We know this year's been tough and that not everyone is in a position to give. LinkNow Media is overjoyed to host The New Secret Santa Project for the eighth year in a row! In 2019, the New Secret Santa initiative is not-so-new anymore—but in our minds, that’s only more cause for celebration. We’re proud to have made a habit of donating to the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres.
What is new, however, is our donation goal. Since 2012, we’ve continually upped the ante, and this year is no different. We’re aiming high with a target of $30 000 and 500 gifts to the children in our provincial foster care system.
Achieving this goal would be unprecedented in LinkNow Media history. But another successful year of small business marketing fun has given us new vigor and determination. This year will be our year. This Christmas, we’ll give the Batshaw kids more than ever before!
Rather than rally the troops to extend their gift-giving further, LinkNow Media’s CEO, Wesley Mendelovitch, took a different approach. At the Annual General Meeting this November, he offered a heartfelt thank you to his team of 200 employees for their ongoing kindness that inspires him year after year.
While LinkNow fundraises externally by joining forces with local businesses to raise money for the non-profit organization, the engine that drives the bulk of our giving still happens internally. It’s LinkNow employees that collectively give up their time, energy, and money to be Santa Claus for hundreds of deserving children.
Embodying the true spirit of the holiday season, Wes told of his profound gratitude for his staff and how their charity and goodwill continually move him.
Lindsey, an Editor in the Content Department, heard Wes’ touching speech last month and ran with it. Driven by her characteristic selflessness and innate love of kids, she immediately left her desk to take not one name card, but two.
As it happened, Lindsey chose letters to Santa from two young Inuit siblings. One of the children is a young boy with autism, the other his younger brother.
A week later, Lindsey arrived at work carrying two enormous, brightly-coloured gift bags under her arms. Among many delightful and practical presents, she pulled out a pair of adorable matching stuffed teddy bears.
She explained to her coworkers the reasoning behind the bears.
“As hard as we try, the foster care system will never be perfect,” she said, “and the sad reality is that these two brothers could be separated, short- or long-term, one day. I thought that if that ever happened, maybe these twin teddys will remind them of each other and the happy Christmas they spent together.”
We know that the whole office is full of similar, heartwarming stories this December. So, on behalf of LinkNow Media, please accept our deep and sincere thank you for your donations.

Shcakia White and her siblings have been involved with Batshaw Youth and Family Centres for as long as she can remember. Born into the foster system, Shcakia and her siblings lived with numerous foster families throughout Ontario. She remembers her upbringing bittersweetly. There were good times with incredibly loving foster families, but there were also more trying times. She’s seen the good and the bad of the foster care system, she says. With every new family, there’d be the worry of whether things were going to work, and there’d often be adjustments. Sometimes these adjustments could feel like too much to handle, especially for her young siblings.
With the tireless assistance of Batshaw Youth and Family Centres, though, things were never as bad as they could have been. Batshaw Youth and Family Centres made sure Shcakia had the support she needed to thrive. They and her caseworker kept her busy through her youth by helping her find high school jobs and suitable, positive activities. It was through Batshaw Youth and Family Centres that she became involved with Montreal’s Black Theatre workshop, even.
After high school, Shcakia found herself working a variety of jobs while juggling the many responsibilities of adulthood, like utility bills, and rent payments. Even young people with more conventional backgrounds have difficulty keeping afloat through early adulthood, but Shcakia thrived. She credits her tenacity to the positive attitude and determination she cultivated at a young age. Shcakia knows that other people with her background aren’t always so lucky, unfortunately. Every child is different. They’re affected by the hardships of the foster system in any number of ways.
Eventually, Shcakia gained employment as a lead generator at LinkNow Media. At first, it was a job like any other, but then Shcakia learned about LinkNow’s involvement with Batshaw Youth and Family Centres. She learned about the New Secret Santa Project and the tens of thousands of dollars the team raised each year. It wasn’t—and isn’t—any regular funding drive. While in the past LinkNow relied on donations from LinkNow team members, we now go a step further. LinkNow seeks donations from individuals and businesses throughout Montreal.
It was LinkNow’s involvement with Batshaw Youth and Family Centres that prompted Shcakia to share her story. At the 2017 LinkNow Talent Show fundraiser, Shcakia spoke to the crowded auditorium. She told them about her family’s background, Batshaw Youth and Family Centre, and the many hurdles she’d had to overcome in her life.
Her speech was emotional, but by no means saddening. Her hope with the speech was that it might resonate with other people who’d had difficult upbringings—and she wanted to show that fundraising mattered.
All her life, Shcakia has made sure she did not let herself fall victim to the world’s expectations of at-risk youth and foster children. She’s never wanted to be another statistic, and she doesn’t want anyone else to, either. She wanted other foster children to know that there is a whole world out there for the taking.
2018 closes on an exciting note for LinkNow Media, and the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres. For the sixth annual LinkNow Media Talent Show fundraiser, our talented staff and friends are headed to Vegas to see some of the hottest acts around. With performances by special celebrity guests including Cher, Celine Dion, The Blue Man Group, Elvis Presley, and David Copperfield, it’s sure to be a glitzy and star-studded evening for everybody.
With food and drink for sale and 100% of the proceeds from the event going to support the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres, odds are good it’ll be an amazing night. All of us at LinkNow will be headed down to the strip, hoping to strike it rich, with the foster kids at the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres guaranteed to win big—with your help.
After years of gag-gift coworker gift exchanges left everyone feeling a little cold, we thought that warming the hearts of others would be a nice change! So, in 2015, we started a gift drive for the foster children at the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres.
For many children in foster care, Christmas is a difficult time. Many children working with the Batshaw Centres don’t have stable care for basic necessities, let alone extra gifts for Christmas. By donating gifts and raising money for the foster care organization, LinkNow Media gives back to their community—and hopes to make it a happy holiday season for all.
In 2016 we raised a whopping $33 000 and 650 gifts for the children at Batshaw Youth and Family Centres! And with $25 000 and 450 gifts last year, let’s work together to make 2018 our best year yet!
Day in, day out we work hard to build beautiful websites for our clients. But it turns out, that’s not the only thing we’re good at! This year, for our annual talent show fundraiser, we’re headed down to the neon-soaked streets of Las Vegas for a thrilling evening.

Combined with the stunning dancing, singing, acting, and yes, even magical talents of our friends at coworkers here at the office, expect performances worthy of the Las Vegas Strip.

For five years now, LinkNow Media has been raising money for the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres during the holiday season. The idea started when we realized the same old secret Santa gift giving tradition just wasn’t doing all it could.
Sure, it’s fun getting joke gifts from your coworkers, but is that really what the season of giving is all about?
Our search for a new tradition lead us to the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres, a non-profit organization that has been providing underprivileged children with the support they need for over 25 years.
Once you decide that you’re going to run a fundraiser, the next step is to figure out the best ways to drum up some funds. On top of a toy drive and sharing our donation page all over social media, we opted for a talent show and charity auction. Our fifth year’s show theme was “Game Show Night”!
The LinkNow Media family, and some of our closest friends, gathered at the Batshaw Centre’s auditorium on December 8th to put on one unforgettable night.
Hosted by the fabulous and hysterical Max Karpman—the man, the myth, the legend—Max even provided attendees with a laugh-out-loud video intro featuring our fearless leader Wesley Mendelovitch, and some choice LinkNow employees who we all know and love, all of whom were portrayed by Max himself.
Stocking up on pizza, chips and drinks, and finding a seat, the audience settled in to watch the show.
Interspersed with gameshow bits from popular shows like American Idol, Fear Factor, So You Think You Can Dance, and Last Comic Standing, this year we saw 10 impressive acts from LinkNow staff.
Brianna , Jillian, Brenda ,and Casey ,all put us to shame with their vocal skills, while Shcakia , used her voice to tell us about her experiences in the system. Jacob got us laughing with his stand-up routine, while Jenna , and Stephanie ,made us all wish we were so light on our feet with their dancing performance.
Adina, Derek, Ken and Bert showed off their acting skills with a skit, Andre impressed us all with his rap skills, and we were treated to an empowering drag performance by the glamorous Rubi Strange!
Who would have thought that the LinkNow Media staff was so entertaining, talented and fearless!
Every year we’ve been lucky to bring in a wide variety of enticing auction rewards and this year was no different. With t-shirts, spa visits, sets of pearl jewelry, personal training and original art, it was hard not to pull out your bidding paddles.
By the time the show was over, not an item was left, and bidders were excited to collect their new belongings.
LinkNow Media’s 5th annual talent show was a star-studded night, and not just because of the sparkling blazer our charismatic host was wearing. Performances exceeded expectations and the night flew by in a wave of cheers and laughs, and of course good times with friends and co-workers.
We may have been enjoying ourselves, but we kept in mind that Christmas time for a foster child isn’t fun. While other kids are looking forward to time with family, lots of food, and tons of presents to unwrap, none of this is guaranteed for a foster child. And, as the old naughty and nice saying goes, bad kids don’t get any gifts—imagine feeling like you’re a bad kid because you don’t have a family?
LinkNow Media hopes year after year to change this situation for as many kids as possible. In 2015, we were able to donate $10,000 and 250 gifts. In 2016, we raised $33,000 and donated 550 gifts.
Every year we aim higher, with our goal for 2017 being $40,000 and 650 gifts, all going directly to the Batshaw Centres. And—you can make a difference too. Whenever the authorities deem a child’s living situation unsafe, many are placed into foster homes. Others may go into other types of out-of-home care on behalf of child welfare agencies, but the conventional wisdom suggests that the majority of Canadian children who have suffered from abuse and/or neglect end up in foster care. But exactly how many children depend on foster care? How widespread are neglect, physical and sexual abuse, and behavioral problems in the province of Quebec? Well, that’s where it gets troubling.
In 2013, Association des Centres Jeunesse de Quebec reported 11,250 in kinship care, foster care and group care. And that’s the last remaining statistic we have on how many children depend on foster care services. How it has changed over the course of four years—we actually have no idea.
The only other data on children in foster care comes from 2008. In 2008, Quebec had over 28,600 cases of child maltreatment investigations, 3,000 more than in the previous decade. The most common reason for these investigations was neglect.
It’s troubling that there isn’t more information about children in foster care available because tracking how many kids are in foster care and what becomes of the children who go through this program is the best way to figure out how it can improve. Unfortunately, thanks to underfunding, staff cuts and a lack of foster families or resources to support them, we may never know exactly how many children are suffering from neglect and abuse. They are doomed to fall through the cracks even further than they already have.
Of course, if you are appalled by the notion that there is very little being done to improve the quality of life for thousands of children who have been born into bad situations, there is something that you can do. Rather than let this vulnerable and virtually invisible segment of our population be forgotten, you can make a difference in their lives by participating in the New Secret Santa.
We are asking for gifts and monetary donations to benefit the foster kids of the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres. When you donate a gift, you can’t underestimate the difference it can make. Since neglect is the top cause of child maltreatment investigations in Quebec, there is no question that the holidays are difficult for these children, especially with all the emphasis on family and togetherness at this time of year. When there is a present underneath the tree for a foster child instead of a harsh reminder of their experiences and current situation, the gratitude is unspeakable.
And if you can’t donate a gift to the New Secret Santa, whatever money you can spare can also make a huge difference in the life of a foster child. Thanks to your generosity, the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres can improve and expand the services they offer to these children in need.
With the number of children in foster care in Quebec hovering somewhere above the 10,000 mark, whatever you are able to spare can make a huge difference in their lives in this time of need.
At LinkNow Media, we made the decision to help the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres this holiday season. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of attacks on our health, but luckily there are people out there constantly fundraising for cures to all of them.
Animal rights, the environment, and our personal health all are big issues that directly affect lives. However, education, arts, and culture are also important parts of our society. Without these things, we would not be able to educate our youth or hold on to our history.
Education charities serve students and potential students of every age group, while arts and culture charities keep our museums, galleries, libraries, and performing arts societies alive.

The holiday season is once again upon us. For many of us, it’s the most wonderful time of year because it’s a chance for us to spend time with and show our appreciation to our loved ones. How many of us take for granted the fact that we have people to share this time of year with?
Most children love the holidays. Time off from school, big family gatherings and let’s not forget letters to Santa Claus. Whether getting cozy by the fire or marvelling at all the gifts perfectly wrapped beneath the tree, how many of us don’t cherish the memories we have of the holidays from when we were young? Of course, unfortunately not every child has such pleasant memories of the holidays.
When you are a child in foster care, the holidays rarely bring the joy they are supposed to. Not only does the emphasis on family togetherness underline their tragic situation, they also must come to terms with the fact that they may not receive any gifts from Santa. From a very young age, children learn that Santa Claus only delivers gifts to good little boys and girls and the bad ones get coal or nothing at all.
Most foster children are still relatively young and when they don’t get anything from Santa on Christmas morning, they end up blaming themselves. Life as a foster kid is hard enough. These children don’t need to feel abandoned by Santa on top of everything else they have been through. This is why LinkNow Media is proud to announce that the New Secret Santa Project is back for another year with even higher goals to make an even bigger impact on the lives of children in the care of the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres.
Last year, we set out to raise $25,000 and 2,500 gifts for foster kids in Montreal. We were thrilled to have raised a grand total of $33,00 for the Batshaw Youth and Family Centres and all of their kids received gifts. However, we won’t be satisfied until we can do more. This year, our goal is to raise at least $40,000 and over 3,000 gifts for these children in foster care who so desperately need some holiday spirit.
